2.1 t catalog operating weight · 1,350 mm overall width · 0.07 m³ bucket · 2,752 mm maximum digging depth

The Hongli HL22 is a small excavator with a catalog operating weight of 2.1 tonnes, a 0.07 m³ digging bucket and an overall width of 1,350 mm. Its listed maximum digging depth is 2,752 mm and maximum digging radius is 4,390 mm. Tai’an Hongli Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd. offers the HL22 with configuration choices that must be identified in the quotation, including engine, enclosure and undercarriage equipment.

Send us your required excavation depth, the machine’s distance from the trench, available access width, destination country and expected quantity. Request an HL22 configuration review so we can compare the proposed build with the actual work.

Check the bucket position you need, not just the largest number

The HL22’s 2,752 mm maximum digging depth and 4,390 mm maximum digging radius describe different limits of its working envelope. They should not be combined into a promise that the bucket reaches a point 4,390 mm away and 2,752 mm down at the same time.

That distinction matters when the machine must stand back from a trench or excavation edge. You need the bucket to reach a specific point from an actual machine position. A maximum-depth number alone cannot establish whether it reaches that point, maintains the required excavation profile or has room to move the material afterward.

Draw the task in section before choosing a model. Show the required trench depth, the horizontal distance between the proposed machine position and the excavation, and any wall or other obstruction. Identify the reference point used for each distance. A measurement from the front of the tracks is not automatically the same as a radius measured from the machine’s rotation center.

Next, add the unloading location. The catalog lists 2,274 mm maximum unloading height, but that is another limit rather than a guarantee of clearance over a vehicle at any radius. Give us the receiving vehicle’s side height and position, or show the spoil area. Request a review of the complete digging and unloading movement using the selected boom, arm and attachment.

An attachment change belongs in the same review. A bucket or quick coupler can change the installed geometry and weight. Do not assume a quoted attachment preserves the working envelope shown for the catalog arrangement. Our mini excavator bucket compatibility guide explains why the interface and attachment configuration need separate checks.

Finally, distinguish reaching a location from handling a load there. No lifting-capacity chart is supplied with the HL22 material used here. We cannot derive an approved lifting capacity from 2.1 tonnes of machine weight, its bucket capacity or its maximum reach. If lifting is part of your application, request the relevant load chart and equipment requirements for that build before ordering.

Where the HL22 is a useful candidate

Consider the HL22 for utility trenches, landscaping, farm maintenance and construction tasks when the site admits its configured width and its working envelope matches the excavation. It is worth comparing with the HL20 when you need the HL22’s greater catalog depth or radius and have sufficient access space.

For a contractor, the useful question is whether the machine can complete the recurring task from the available position. For a dealer, ask customers for that task and their route restrictions before stocking a particular configuration. The same nominal operating weight can conceal meaningful differences in machine dimensions.

Do not select the HL22 if your essential access route is narrower than its confirmed overall width. Do not order it for a lift whose capacity has not been established, or for a trench whose geometry has only been compared with the maximum-depth number. A heavier-duty digging requirement also needs evidence beyond the bucket-volume figure.

If the HL20 already fits the excavation and its narrower dimensions solve an access problem, the HL22’s extra catalog reach may not be a benefit you need. We would rather identify that before quotation than ask you to accommodate a wider machine after delivery.

Read the dimensions against your site

Overall width and body width have different jobs

The HL22 lists 1,350 mm overall width and 1,060 mm body width. Use the overall-width figure for the first access check. The smaller body-width entry does not establish that the whole machine passes through a 1,060 mm opening.

Retractable tracks are listed as an option, but the supplied documents do not state their retracted and expanded widths. Nor do they identify the body-width number as a retracted setting. Request both undercarriage dimensions and the complete machine width in the proposed travel arrangement, including the blade and other projections.

A straight entrance is only part of the route. Measure bends, projecting gate hardware, height restrictions and the space where the machine will stand. For an expandable undercarriage, request the operating instructions for the offered configuration rather than treating its narrow travel position as a universal working position.

Maximum depth does not establish vertical-wall depth

The listed 2,752 mm is maximum digging depth. There is no separate vertical-wall digging-depth figure in the supplied material. If the job involves excavating beside a foundation or achieving a particular wall profile, send that geometry for assessment instead of labeling the maximum-depth figure as vertical digging capacity.

Likewise, the maximum blade digging depth and lifting height describe blade movement. They are not approved trench dimensions or machine lifting ratings. Keep their purpose separate from the boom-and-bucket working envelope.

Boom swing and rear clearance are separate checks

The catalog lists 45° left and 55° right boom swing. These describe movement of the boom relative to the machine, not a verified zero-tail-swing classification. The 914 mm body-swing-radius entry and 2,148 mm minimum-swing-radius entry also have different labels and should not be substituted for each other.

For work beside a wall, request a drawing of the actual rear swept envelope and the intended boom position. Our zero tail swing vs conventional mini excavator guide helps separate rear clearance from access width and boom movement.

Bucket width and transport weight need configuration checks

The supplied technical sheet describes the 430 mm bucket width as excluding side teeth. Confirm the cutting profile of the ordered bucket if the width of a service trench affects your quotation. A 0.07 m³ bucket does not establish output per hour or the force available to break a particular material.

For transport, use the weight and dimensions of the delivered build and the equipment carried with it. The catalog’s 2.1-tonne operating weight is not a confirmed shipping gross weight. Include spare tools, a coupler and other transported equipment when checking your loading arrangement. Enclosure changes also need confirmation against the 2,280 mm catalog height.

Choose a complete HL22 configuration

Engine: The catalog cover identifies Kubota and lists Perkins / Changchai in its options. The separate technical sheet describes a Changchai 390 build. Request the exact offered engine, rated-speed and power definition, identification-plate details and destination documents. The material does not establish one engine as standard across every HL22 order. Our mini excavator engine buying checklist sets out the information to request.

Canopy or enclosed cab: Ask which enclosure is included and whether air conditioning is part of that offer. Request actual height and weight for the quoted build. A photograph alone cannot establish protective certification; if that is a requirement, request the corresponding documentation.

Tracks and undercarriage: Rubber tracks are listed in the main specification, with steel tracks and a retractable chassis among the options. Describe the surfaces and access route to us, then ask what equipment suits them. Do not infer stability or lifting capacity from a wider track arrangement without the appropriate configuration data.

Controls and hydraulic equipment: Hydraulic pilot control is listed in the catalog options. If the control arrangement matters to your operator, request a demonstration of the proposed build. For powered tools, obtain auxiliary flow, pressure, return arrangement and tool-specific requirements. The 22 L hydraulic tank capacity is not a flow rating.

Quick coupler and tools: Confirm the attachment interface, installed weight and working geometry. A coupler does not establish that every bucket or powered attachment is suitable. Ask for a named configuration rather than an unspecified attachment package.

HL22 or HL20: what changes at the same nominal weight?

The HL20 and HL22 both list 2.1 tonnes and a 0.07 m³ bucket. The HL20 lists 1,060 mm overall width, compared with 1,350 mm for the HL22. The 290 mm difference can matter before either machine starts digging.

The HL22 lists 2,752 mm maximum digging depth and 4,390 mm maximum digging radius. The HL20 lists 2,418 mm and 4,112 mm, respectively. The HL22’s catalog limits are therefore 334 mm deeper and 278 mm farther in radius. Its listed unloading height is also 149 mm higher, at 2,274 mm versus 2,125 mm.

These differences justify a closer task comparison. They do not prove that the HL22 digs faster, lifts more or produces a lower cost per job. No comparable digging-force, lift-chart or production-test data is supplied here.

Start with the route. If both machines can reach the work position, compare the required bucket path and unloading arrangement against their configuration drawings. If the narrower HL20 meets the task, extra reach alone is not a reason to overlook its access advantage. The mini excavator size chart provides a broader measurement framework if you need to compare other sizes.

HL22 buying questions

Is the HL22 a 2.2-tonne excavator?

The supplied catalog lists 2.1 tonnes operating weight. Do not infer 2.2 tonnes from the model name. Request the weight of the selected configuration separately for transport planning.

Can I use 1,060 mm as the HL22 access width?

That figure is labeled body width. The catalog overall width is 1,350 mm. A retractable-chassis option needs its own confirmed dimensions before making an access claim.

Can the HL22 dig 2,752 mm down at its maximum radius?

The documents list maximum depth and maximum radius as separate limits. They do not establish that both occur at the same bucket position. Submit the actual horizontal offset and required depth for a working-envelope check.

Does the HL22 lift more than the HL20 because it is wider?

That conclusion is not supported by the supplied data. Obtain comparable lifting charts for the actual configurations, operating positions and equipment before making a lifting-capacity comparison.

Is Kubota included in every HL22 quotation?

Do not assume it. The catalog and separate technical sheet describe different engine choices. The current quotation must identify the engine included and the documents applicable to the intended destination.

Are the HL22 boom-swing angles the same as the HL20?

The supplied catalogs list HL22 left/right angles as 45°/55° and HL20 as 55°/45°. Confirm the orientation and selected build if a wall-side task depends on one direction. Neither angle pair establishes rear-body clearance.
